Exciting news - our beloved Founder & Director, Megan Andelloux, has just become the first recipient of the First Tracks Award for Innovation In Sexology. Presented by Honest Exchange President Melanie Davis, PhD, CSE, she was selected as the 2012 winner for her “cutting-edge work as well as for her commitment to quality and integrity”.
Davis added, “The term ‘first tracks’ refers to the imprint made by someone who is the first to blaze a trail across new-fallen snow. I created the First Tracks Award to recognize individuals or organizations in sexology who are innovative educators, who develop useful models or areas of research, or who provide consulting or counseling in new ways. Other sexology awards honor publishing, research excellence, work quality and service. This award recognizes those who not only think differently, but who also turn their ideas into action.”
So, what are some things Megan’s done lately?
Megan fought through multiple challenges to found the Center For Sexual Pleasure And Health - a resource to provide consumers and professionals with access to information about sexuality, sexual health, and sexual pleasure (and the reason this Tumblr exists!). It now boasts daily article updates and a highly competitive national internship program.
This year, she created WhatTheyAreAsking.com, a website which highlights “the desperate need individuals have for medically accurate, comprehensive education regarding sexuality.”
She wrote a white paper assessing sexuality education curricula in medical schools, alongside regular trainings she held for physicians and medical students to improve physician-patient communication about sexual health.
On the CSPH website, she put together and published a Map of Gender and Sexuality Programs which allows prospective students and professors to locate academic institutions tackling issues of sexuality and gender.
In line with her experience working as a gynecological teaching assistant, she established a gynecological standardized patient training program to assist in medical student education.
Megan co-facilitates and puts together sexuality attitude reassessments (SARs) for professionals in sexology, therapy, and other related fields.
She is also the creator and star of the Study Sex College Tour, an educational lecture series that has become wildly popular at some of the nation’s largest campuses. In addition, she runs workshops at popular sex store Good Vibrations, speaks at medical schools and hospitals, and brings the same love of sex education to private consultations at the Center.
Congratulations, Megan, for receiving this honor! Your sassy, empathetic, and high-energy sex positivity is an inspiration to us all.
